Meditating Towards Weight Loss

I found this interesting post on the Runner's World website:

"Try High-Tech Meditation For Weight Loss

We allrecognize that we don't always eat because we're hungry; sometimes weeat for "emotional reasons," for lack of a more precise term. In thisstudy, Italian researchers used "new technologies" like mp3 players andvirtu...

I'm Not Crazy! Really, I'm Not.

I got my butt out of bed at 4:50am today to go for a hard and fast 2 mile run. Here is the conversation I had about 1.5 miles in....

Mind: Alright, now do a hard sprint to that street sign, then I will let you easy jog the rest of the way home.

Hindsight is 20/20

Awhile ago I promised to do a "looking back" entry about my weight loss journey. Today is the perfect day because at weigh-in tonight I should become a lifetime member of Weight Watchers (6 weeks on maintenance!).

So, if I had a Delorean that could hop through space & time, what five things would I tell myself on May 21st, 2008 - the day before I joined Weight Watchers:

Halo vs. Horns: The Great Workout Debate

This cartoon says it all. I sometimes get asked how I find the motivation to workout as often as I do. The truth is, sometimes I don't have any motivation at all. Those are the times when the self-talk starts. First, I argue with myself:

Whittled Wednesday & A Quote

Posted at 07:50 AM on February 18, 2009 Comments comments (0)

"Don't do anything on a diet that you won't do for the rest of your life."

Thanks to PLACKER on the Weight Watcher's 20-Something Board for this quote. I think this sums up the attitude you need to have in order to complete a weight loss journey and maintain that loss longterm. This is why fad and trick diets (like Atkins) don't work. And I know I can't go...

Love Your Year

Posted at 01:38 PM on January 10, 2009 Comments comments (1)

I recently picked up a copy of "Self" magazine, and read a section called "15 Minutes to Your Best Self." One of the exercises in this section was a reflection piece related to the new year, and I wanted to share it on here:

I'm proud of....(things in 2008)

  • Deciding to get heatlhier, and following through with it.

Motivating Myself to be Motivated

Posted at 12:05 PM on January 06, 2009 Comments comments (2)

Maybe its because I did not ring the New Year in with style. Maybe its because the holidays were stressful. Or maybe its just because I have been at it for 8 months now, but I am seriously lacking in the motivation department lately.

I know everyone on a weight loss journey feels like this at one point or another. I want to scream "I just want to be done already!" at the top of my lungs. Other than earning a coll...

Old Photos = Motivation

A friend and co-worker found the below left photo today. Its from our Annual Gala that took place in early May 2008. That is about 2 weeks before I walked into a Weight Watchers meeting.

The TIONS: Motivation, Dedication, Determination, Concentration....

[WARNING: This is going to be a long post kids!]

Words ending in -tion should be a part of every Weight Watchers vocabulary. We talk about many of them meetings often:
  • Preparation: Planning your meals ahead of time
  • Motivation: Staying focused and staying on plan, as we like to say

Excitement & Butterflies

Posted at 08:53 AM on December 08, 2008 Comments comments (0)
Every time I think about going back to Michigan for Christmas in a few weeks, I get butterflies! I am so excited to show off to my friends and family - everyone except my Mom hasn't seen me since I was over 200 lbs.

This also serves as great motivation to stay on-plan with eating healthy and exercising during the party filled holiday season so I can continue to lose weight until I see everyone.

It's The Little Things

A small comment, that costs someone nothing, can make a huge impact on another person's day. I received three yesterday:
  1. From my boss: "You look fantastic, I am proud of what you have done!"
  2. From a co-worker: "Wow! You are lo...

Focus

Posted at 10:12 AM on November 06, 2008 Comments comments (1)
I have lots of things to be happy about and I am trying to focus on them today, because there is so much right now that is trying to drag me down. I know if I let my emotions completely rule me, I will binge on terrible food and throw a wrench in all the good I have accomplished thus far. So, in an effort to think positive, here are the things I have to be happy about today:

Rediscovery

Well, hello will power! Where have you been all these years?

Yesterday was Halloween, and I managed to make it though the entire day at work - including a cubicle decorating contest complete with candy, cake, and cookies - without having any sweets. Then I ate a very healthy dinner. Feeling very good about myself, I picked out 4 of my favorite pieces of fun size candy (the small ones) from our stash that was being handed out to the ki...

Happy Tears

Posted at 08:14 AM on October 01, 2008 Comments comments (0)
I don't know what hit me this morning (yes I do, Aunt Flo is visiting) but I just suddenly became overwhelmed with all the good changes I have made while I was in the shower and started sobbing - because I was so happy. Weird, yes, but I can't believe how much has changed in my life in just 4 short months.  Of course, I have lost 33+ lbs, but I have also completely changed my eating habits, become much more active, and dropped three... Why Is It So Hard To Change?

Thanks to "rutgersrah07" on the Weight Watchers boards for this fascinating article on why it is so hard to change our habits - whether it be eating healthier, exercising more, smoking less, or something else.  This article was enlightening because it expl... Read Full Post »

Biggest Loser on NBC

Posted at 09:03 AM on September 17, 2008 Comments comments (0)
Last night was the premier of Season 6 of The Biggest Loser on NBC. Its my first time ever watching the show.  To be honest, I have avoided the show in previous seasons because I knew it would snap me out of my denial that anything was wrong with me.

A girl, close to my age, had a starting weight only 1.5 lbs heavier than my starting weight 3 months ago.

I cried for most of the episode because I had so much empathy for t...

Ch-ch-ch-changes!

Posted at 08:48 AM on September 15, 2008 Comments comments (0)
Many of my friends and family have been asking me what are some of the changes I have noticed since losing 30 lbs, well, here is a list!
  • I am smaller (kind of obvious, but one of the best changes), particularly in my legs and tummy which I guess is from all the running. I have lost 2 pant sizes, 1 shirt size (darn boobies just won't shrink!), and 5 points on m...

Moral Support = A Much Needed Mood Adjustment

Posted at 08:08 AM on August 29, 2008 Comments comments (0)
So, as predicted yesterday, I weighed-in at 190.4 - not the 189 lbs I saw on the scale all week. I have to admit I was a little down about this until the end of my meeting.  My leader gave me the 25 lb charm for my key chain, and then proceeded to tell the rest of the group how fantastic I was looking. It was just the pick-me-up I needed so badly.  This is why Weight Watchers works - they give you a plan, but they also give you... Read Full Post »

Why?

This question gets posted on the Weight Watchers board often, and I have definitely gotten it from friends and family.

What are your reasons for losing weight?
