Vacation! All I Ever Wanted. Vacation! Had To Get Away.

I was on vacation in Maine at the end of last week for a friend's wedding. It was the first real vacation I have taken since being on the Weight Watcher program. Up until now, I just had short business trips and holidays with my parents. Well, vacation is a whole other beast, for sure. My whole schedule was shifted, not to mention that it was a wedding with old college friends, so drinking was priority numero uno on everyone's list.

I ate indulgently this weekend. I had banana's foster, cheesecake, steak, sweet potato pancakes, fruity cocktails and more. But I also loaded up on veggies at every meal, had oatmeal & fresh fruit for breakfast everyday, went running & hiking, and even visited a vegetarian bistro for lunch so I could have a heavier dinner. But if I wanted something (like that handmade pinot noir raspberry sorbet - to die for), I had it! It was nice to realize I could balance healthier options and portion control, with splurging on things I really wanted.

The result? I am up about 1.5 lbs on the scale this morning. More importantly, I feel relaxed and rejunvenated from my vacation. And really, I know I can lose 1.5 lbs over the next couple of weeks.

Even better - I had a great time dancing the entire night away at the wedding with my husband & friends. I was able to keep my heels on the whole time (no blistering & achy feet from carrying around the extra weight) and my makeup didn't run down my face because of sweat (which I used to do profusely because of the extra padding). I swear, every time I do something now, its like experiencing it in a whole new way! This alone makes all the work over the last year worth it.

What things have you "re-experienced" after starting to get healthy?

Sounds like you had a great time! I can't wait to go dancing and be able to keep my heels on. In fact, I ventured out in heels today, and I'm sitting at my desk at work and have already taken them off. It must be so much easier to walk in heels when you are 80 pounds lighter right? I can't wait to get there!

Well thats a much happier blog.. =) and ya know whats funny? im here thinking that 1.5 pounds is NOTHING and i can be up or down 2 pounds from day to day. so i see that as a HUGE victory of a vacation. great job =) i havent yet lost enough weight to "re-experience" anything yet...... but i dream about it ....... often =)

I'm so glad you had a great time! That's awesome! After all that fun only being up 1.5..that's not bad at all!

Well, I have lost 20 lbs and gone down 2 sizes. I still have more to lose, so i am sure there are many things I will re-experience.
But so far shopping with friends and not being embarrassed to try things on..and not having to shop in the plus size section is so far the most fun!
Also, being able to go hiking and do outdoor activities without being out of breath and feeling like I want to die!
AND...i'll spare the details...BUT alone time with my husband is starting to get really fun!..since i'm not as self conscious.
I look forward to more things!!
I love that question...never thought of that before. Definately puts my efforts into a whole new pespective!

Sounds like an amazing time. Also just think that you did only gain 1.5 pounds. I figure if that's all you gain on a vacation then that's a job well done. Normal life brings it right back off.

As for what I have done I would say the fact that I am wearing short for the first summer in I don't know like 5 years is enough in its self. I know it sounds silly but I feel great being able to show off my legs... even though I am so short I barley have them ha ha.
